Sneak Peak: Traditional with a Twist

Andrea MaaseideComment

We're at the tail end of a terrific project out in Occoquan, VA.  Our client, a bachelor, wanted a warm and cozy space with a masculine vibe and more traditional look.  When we presented our concepts to him, we included darker wood finishes, lots of texture and patterns, and warmth. We definitely kept the feel masculine and traditional, but with just enough softness and some fun twists.  Here's the before:

Not much happening here... definitely in need of a change!

The whole project has taken about three months and the space is just about finished.  Art and accessories are definitely in order, but we're happy to share the start of the transformation:

The mostly green and brown palette is earthy and masculine, while the patterns and textures add just the right amount of softness. The different fabrics we chose for the inside and outside of the Lolling chair add a fun element to the space.  The barley twist antique side table was sourced from Etsy, while the marble top side table was found at a local antique store.

We're really happy with the way the space is transforming and our client is enjoying it tremendously.  Next steps include art, accessories, and paint! The paint normally would have been one of the first steps, but our client wants to hold off on painting until a full year has passed since the town home is a brand new build.  In terms of art, we think a pastoral scene above the sofa would be beautiful....

We loved the look of this pastoral painting, Trowell Landscape 13, so we've photoshopped it in to share with the client .
