Bathroom Renovation: Inspiration Needed

Andrea MaaseideComment

It's finally time.  The kids' bathroom has been sorely neglected over the years as we've poured time and energy into other parts of the house.  The odd layout, dated look, and worn appearance has been ignored for long enough.  The kids are getting big enough now that we can't keep sharing our bathroom with them.  It's time they had a bathroom that they are actually willing to use.

The dangling board is classy.  Seriously.  It's time, people.

The first part of any project, including my own, involves finding some inspiration.  With two girls and a boy, I need something pretty gender neutral.  Lately, I find that I'm drawn towards a black and white palette, with a touch or organic - wood tones, maybe a splash of green (this could just be something living).  I want the look to be classic without being boring.

I love the darker grout and the use of the brass hardware.  The black tub is also awesome!  And that rug adds such a cozy element. There's no way we could have wood floors in the bathroom, though.  They'd be destroyed in no time.  The wood has to come in another way...{Via Domino}

So... I guess wood on the ceiling is another way to bring in the wood.  This palette is perfect.  Black, white, grey, wood tones.  I'd probably do a different floor, though, in our space.  And of course, we need more closed storage... kids, you know.  {Via Pinterest}

Here they've brought in the wood and natural tones with wall decor - the mirror - and a natural woven basket.  The floor is killer, but I think we'll go for something simpler.  {Via Pinterest}

This completely open storage would not function at all for us, but I love how warm this bathroom feels. {Via Architectural Digest}

So it's not a bathroom, but it still provides wonderful inspiration.  {Via Apartment Therapy}

I had to throw this in.  My kids have been begging for a dog... do you think this wallpaper would suffice?  ;)  {Via Design Sponge}  You can find this wallpaper here!

Here are a few pieces that I'm already eyeing for the new bathroom.

(1) Love all the storage in this Hutton Double Washstand. (2) Melissa Sconce, Urban Electric Co. (3) A simple mirror like this will do.  (4) A chevron floor by Walker-Zanger would make a statement for sure. (5) These turkish bath towels are perfect! (6)  Baskets under the washstand would add lovely texture and more (much needed) storage space; (7) this shower curtain has the perfect vibe. (8) These great bath accessories add some warmth.

Definitely need to incorporate some greenery, but it's a start!!
