West Elm has become one of our favorite local vendors. They have such a variety of cool products. We always can find pieces that add the perfect finishing touch to a project, or pieces that provide the perfect inspirational starting point. But there's so much more to West Elm than that.
Did you know that through 2015 West Elm has made a commitment to pay "$35 million directly to artisans who use handcraft techniques." (Via West Elm). This includes artisans from over 15 countries - Peru, India, The Philippines, and Haiti just to name a few, In order to meet this goal, West Elm is working with variety of organizations, including Etsy (our favorite!), Fair Trade, and Craftmark. According to West Elm, "this commitment will create over 4,500 economic opportunities for artisans to improve livelihoods, support craft communities, empower women through business, preserve unique, cultural craft traditions..." and more (Via West Elm). This is amazing!
Here are a few handcrafted products that caught my eye.
There's something to be said for items that are handcrafted. In this age of mass-production, I think we forget the incredible beauty and life that these products can bring to our homes.
You can read more about West Elm's work with these artisans here, and make sure to take a look at all of the products here. I'm certain you can find something special for your home and the best part is that it will be hard to have any buyer's remorse when you are supporting such a worthy cause!
As a final note, we are in no way affiliated with West Elm or being paid to toot their horn. Happy shopping!
