Black and white - one the absence of all color and one the presence of all color. Can you guess which is which? In the visible spectrum, black is the absence of all color and white is the presence of all color. Totally confusing, right? My fingerprinting days would have led me to believe that black was the presence of all color given the muddy creations you can concoct when you mix colors together. Oh well. We don't really need to know the science behind all of this. We just need to know that the two together make a completely striking pair.
I was reminded of my black and white obsession the other night when I was watching one of those fluffy TV shows on Bravo. In the background, I spotted a huge black and white print. Big, bold, and graphic.. and perfect! There's beauty in simplicity, right?
This Lindsay Cowle's piece is so lovely.
Just a splash of yellow in this design.
One of our favorite vendors,Natural Curiosities, has some great black and white print options if you want to add this look in your own home. A few years ago, I was gifted this print by Paule Marrot, a French engraver, painter, and textile artist and a featured Natural Curiosities artist. It's so fantastic in person!
These are a great pair with "strong lines and clean abstract imagery"!
Have a great weekend!
