A few weeks ago I found a vintage chair on Etsy by the furniture designer Nanna Ditzel

I was so intrigued by this piece that I decided to do a little more research on Nanna.

Considered the "first lady of Danish Design", Nanna was an extremely versatile designer.  Originally trained in cabinet making, Nanna went on to work in furniture, textile, and even jewelry design.   She began her career in the late 40's/early 50's and continued her work until her death in 2005.

She always worked with a variety of materials, including fiberglass, rubber and wicker. One of her most iconic and recognized designs is the hanging "Egg" chair which she designed in 1959.  This piece is still a classic in modern design today.

Nanna is also remembered for her split-level seating and floor cushions. This design is what most of us think of when we talk about interior design in the 60's and 70's.

For me, it is Nanna's chair frames, like the one I found on Etsy, that I find most captivating.

I also love her jewelry.  Her designs included over 150 pieces created in collaboration with Georg Jensen.  Here are two designs that especially caught my eye. I love the bracelet, it reminds me of the lines you find in her furniture frames and the watch has such clean and classic lines.

I hope you enjoy her work as much as I do!

Cheers!
